http://preferredmode.com/tag/bike-style/page/32/ I know they have the best wireless service in the area. But anything is better than alliance with tyrants.
Huixtla I’m currently at minute 33 on hold, after speaking with five different service representatives over the past two hours. My story? In September I brought a Verizon technician out to my cabin – Verizon is the only local service installer – to see what the cost would be of installing phone service. It ended up being in excess of $10,000, and we both agreed that it would be crazy to attempt it. But Verizon being canny, they wouldn’t send a technician until I had set up an account – so they had all my information.
I heard nothing from them until February, when they started sending me bills for phone service. I was in New Orleans at the time, and since October, November, December, and January had already passed without sending me a bill, I hardly thought that such a thing would start. And after all, no phone line had been installed – there was no jack, no wire, no invoming or outgoing calls, nothing. By the time I arrived back home, they had already closed my account and sent it off to a collection agency – for $334.27.
So today I hauled myself into town to dispute the bill (since of course I don’t have phone service, I need to drive 40 minutes to town to make a phone call). It’s taken me two hours on the phone so far. One agent said “This is a judgement call and I’m saying no refund, so call and get another agent if you want a different answer.” So I did. There was mass confusion as to who should deal with the case, because the account was canceled. First it went to Billing. Then Financial Services, who said Billing needed to take care of it.
This always seems to happen with Verizon. I had a phone line with them while living on Staten Island. I vowed never to deal with them again, but as far as installation goes, they’re the only guys in town here. So this is the nonsense I get even though I never got phone service installed anyway.
