There’s nothing difficult about installing such an ornament on one’s car: it’s just that you never ever see it done. When I told a friend about this, he said, “Everyone knows New Orleans is weird, but it really doesn’t get the credit it deserves for just how weird it is.” He’s right. There’s a range of human behavior you see there that you just don’t see in other American cities, and it’s not at all clear to me why it turned out so different from the rest.
