Bolingbrook I climbed Giant Ledge with a friend on what appeared to be a gorgeous, sunny afternoon on Saturday. But it’s strange weather we’ve been having. Every two hours is like a different day. It started raining about halfway up, pouring about three-quarters of the way up. We had no rain gear (this is a short, two-hour roundtrip hike). We got to the top in pouring rain. We looked a bit at the azaleas and the views, then came back down. If the hike had been longer, hypothermia would have been a danger – it was wet and cold, cold, cold. Our hands and forearms were numb by the time we made it to our car. (Cool weather recently – it was in the 40s the past two nights, highs in the 60s during the day). But we got to see the Giant Ledge view in a new way – with clouds and rain. I’ve only seen it in clear, gorgeous weather. The Giant Ledge view is remarkable because you can’t see anything made by man in your entire field of vision.
