http://bestpensintheworld.com/parker-45-fountain-pen-review Waiting in the New York Public Library to meet a friend, who was late, my eyes had leisure to see things they had not seen before; and they chanced upon a tiny little room overdone in purple marble just off the foyer, a sort of bibliophanic sacristy, with a few glass cases containing what appeared to be literary relics of some sort or other. I poked my head in, and what did I see but the original manuscript of Candide, penned by Voltaire’s secretary – like many 18th-c. men (Goethe being most in my mind) Voltaire “wrote” by dictation – with corrections in the master’s hand. Voltaire’s briefcase, a gilt red-leather affair, was also there. I was so amazed to see these things that for a little while I couldn’t find anything wrong with Optimism.
