Out of Cold Storage.

24-Mar-14

My bike has now been pulled out of cold storage.  This bike has been across the country, New York to Seattle, and down the West Coast to Tijuana, and has done the length of the Via Appia from Rome to Brundisium.  This time the plan is to ascend the Mississippi River, from the Gulf to Minnesota, starting sometime in April.

This is just about the best picture of a bike I’ve ever seen. Happy Spring, John!

    John:
I’d like to recommend a book to you which I am sure that you will enjoy reading. It is by a fellow enthusiast of H. D. Thoreau who is also a top-notch naturalist and a graceful writer. His name is Jack Phillips, the book is The Bur Oak Manifesto: Seeking Nature and Planting Trees in the Great Plains. Prairie Fire Press, Lincoln, NE, cost under $20.00, as I recall.
Jack is of Lebanese heritage, very very knowledgeable about the major Christian denominations (raised a Presbyterian, but mother was Maronite Christian.) He is very scholarly and an eloquent writer. I guarantee that you will enjoy this book.
And by the way, enjoy that trip along the Mississippi. Be sure to note the bur oaks, which will change noticeably in their morphology as you go north.
    Best, Allan Taylor, Boulder, CO.
